+--------------------------------------------------------------------------+

I've uploaded the third public Release of my Graphic-Viewer GRAV to
sunsite.unc.edu and tsx-11.mit.edu. GRAV runs at the Linux Console (NOT
X11!!!). It uses a nice (I think so) User Interface to select the images
you want to look at.

GRAV supports many popular formats of graphics: GIF, PCX, LBM, IFF, PPM
PBM, BMP and many other..... AND: YEAH! FINALLY! GRAV SUPPORTS JPEG!!!!
And even more: GRAV supports the new Graphic-Standard PING!

To get GRAV running you must have installed at least NCurses 1.8 and
SVGALIB 0.98. Newer releases would be better of course ;-) But beware
that there are some bugs in ncurses versions > 1.8.7 and < 1.9.1a and
GRAV will probably not run with this versions of ncurses. And for the
new JPEG-Support you need the JPEGLIB 5.0 from the IJG!

The main new features are:

       - I've added a man-page
       - added way to enter a filename directly
       - support for ET3000 and MACH32
       - resolution can be changed in graphic-mode, too!
       - added support for 15, 16 and 24-Bit Modes (Real- and Truecolor)
       - new fileformat: IBM Pagesegments (IBM AFP)
       - new fileformat: JPEG!
       - new fileformat: PING!
       - display graphics in greyscales
       - you can enter the "start directory" at the prompt
       - GRAV can be used to display a single image only (filename as parm)
       - can display 24bit images on 8bit screens
       - can view Kodak PCD-Images (at 768x512 only, no overview images)
       - Palette rotate
       - flip image
       - mirror image
       - scale a image (fit to screen)
       - mouse-support (use mouse for scrolling)

And of course there are some bugfixes.......

So, watch out for the files grav-3.1.tar.gz and grav-3.1.lsm! Please send
any suggestions, comments and cakes ;-) to knick@cove.han.de

The next release of GRAV will be able to print and to convert images.

And please excuse my poor english. I've left school some years behind me ;-)

Bye
  Michael
