========================================================================

A short history....

I had originally intended to distribute X11-QMR as shareware, but
got to thinking about all the excellent software that was freely
    available for Linux and Un*x.

I did the original development of X11-QMR on HP-UX, then I got
Linux from Yggdrasil, finally OSF/Motif became available for
Linux, and so began qmr's public life.

Copyright Statement...

X11-QMR is Copyright (c) 1994 of Ross C Linder. X11-QMR is not public
domain. Permission is granted to use and distribute X11-QMR freely.

The only restriction is that you may not distribute modified source
code, and that you do not attempt to prevent others from having free
    access to the source.

Why no modified source ? ...

Well I am still busy working on qmr, and I would like to keep the
product in a stable state for a while. I do welcome any suggestions
    etc.

But it's not GNU !..

Thats right, I don't support the GNU concept, while I have no
objections to it, I am not convinced about it's copy-left system.

From my own point of view, I do believe that programmers have a
right to make money directly from their work. Imagine that the
author of a book was only entitled too compensation if he/she
gave you assistance in understanding their novel, absurd !

While on the subject, let me also say a big thanks to those that
do and have supported GNU, your work is fantastic !

Warranty...

This software is provides "AS IS", with no warranties of any kind,
implied or otherwise. In no event shall I or any other person be
liable for any damages whatsoever arising from the use or misuse
    of this product.

To this end the source code is freely available to examine and ensure
that there is no attempt to cause any harm to anyone or anything.

Distribution...

X11-QMR may be distributed freely in binary and/or source code
form. In any event all distributions shall include the documentation
files, "README", "CHANGES", "BUGS" and "COPYING" (This file)

Distribution of source code must include all sources and be in a
manner that will successfully compile with "make".

Latest version...

The latest version will always be available via ftp from "iaccess.za"
in the directory "/pub/unix/x11-qmr". It should be available from any
site that carries a full Linux distribution. I will attempt to keep
"tsx-11.mit.edu" and "sunsite.unc.edu" up to date as well.

Final word ..

Having said all of this, in simple words what I want to achieve is
X11-QMR being free for all and sundry to use without exception. But
I want to maintain the code, at least for the next few months. I want
to build the product up and use it to explore new areas of GUI's.

So if you are part of GNU, and you think I should make X11-QMR
part of the GNU project, send me some "sales hype" I may yet
become converted <g>. Remember I am a little isolated over here
    in South Africa.

Well that's it, all that is left is to enjoy it.

    Regards to all
